St Bede’s is a vibrant learning community.

At St Bede’s, teaching is informed by each student’s point of need

The curriculum is then designed and adjusted to meet children at their point of need.

Students are aware of the particular learning focus and where they are on their learning progression through the use of learning intentions, success criteria, teacher feedback and these then inform student goal setting.

Teacher capacity is continually developed at St Bede’s. Teacher capacity has one of the greatest impacts on student learning.

We support our students to feel that they belong and have a voice within their learning environment.

Your child’s individual needs are paramount.

Literacy

Literacy is a valued element of our learning at St Bede’s. Students participate in a daily two hour Literacy block, comprising of Reading, Writing and Oral Language activities. At St Bede’s we understand the importance of a differentiated curriculum, where each student is targeted at their point of need.

At St Bedes, we:

  • develop a love of language by immersing students in positive literary experiences and celebrations (students enjoy Book Week activities, our Scholastic Book Fair and the Great Book Swap)

  • use formative and summative assessments to pinpoint student’s learning and plan for individual needs

  • provide literacy support programs for students in need

  • immerse Inquiry learning and Digital Technologies into our English curriculum, allowing students to experience language in a relevant and challenging way

  • work collaboratively as a staff to ensure that all students experience learning success

  • provide a differentiated curriculum, where students are challenged to work to their highest ability and their engagement is closely monitored through focussed teaching groups

French

French is taught to all children every day by the classroom teachers. The children learn functional language in their explicit French lessons and this is then used throughout the day.
